Mediation: a communication strategy to resolve conflicts between individuals

Empowerment-based mediation works when those involved in the conflict are receptive to acquiring the necessary skills in order to improve their negotiating strategies, and that is where the social worker intervenes in giving security and confidence to the parties, by empowering them, that this research aimed to analyze mediation as a communication strategy to resolve conflicts between individuals, according to the area of action of the social worker. The research is phenomenological, with qualitative methodology, taking the interview applied to 6 social workers. Responses were analyzed with content analysis. The results indicated that mediation determines an effective technique for conflict resolution: judicial, family, educational, community, personal and group, identifying the fundamental communication strategy for listening, clarifying ideas and providing appropriate alternatives. It is concluded that the social worker is prepared to exercise the role of mediation.
