History and ethnonationalism in Vox´s electoral discourse: Twitter as a case study

This research carries out a critical review of the digital discourse developed by Vox, a prominent far right Spanish political party, around ethno-national thoughts and historical concepts of the remote past. The corpus of analysis is developed between March 27 and May 29, 2019, and encompasses the general elections of April 28 and the European elections of May 26 of that year, moments in which Vox stood out electorally. A critical discourse analysis on representative messages that Vox disseminated in those electoral events through the social network Twitter, now called X, is practiced. The results show meanings more linked to radical ideology than to any citizen use, without any applicable political projection, and which establish a traditionalist Spanish mythology of ancestral patriotic clamor that is detached from historical rigor.
