SDG 4 and university: perspectives of social development in Latin America.

Abstract

Higher education has had accelerated growth in recent times, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, meaning, according to the interpretations of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, a reference for the material progress of the people. As part of the objectives to achieve Sustainable Development, SDG 4 calls for providing access to quality education to all individuals, which cannot be achieved without higher education that addresses social emergencies, which means working in favor of social well-being and the democratization of education, implementing accurate measures so that sustainability and an ecological and inclusive vision of education are present in academic settings, such as formal and informal continuing education programs. As such, it is maintained that the achievement of Sustainable Development implies a joint task, where the university has the task of connecting the advancement of science with vulnerable sectors, thus guaranteeing sustained growth and planetary protection.
