For centuries, the university has been a humanistic reference, dedicated to the universalization of knowledge, to the generation of new knowledge, but also to guaranteeing freedom, critical thinking and the rights of citizens. In this sense, the present research, developed under a hermeneutic-documentary approach, analyzes the significance of the university in the training and defense of Human Rights in the 21st century. To achieve this objective, the following aspects are taken into consideration: 1. The philosophical foundations that support Human Rights. 2. The misrepresentation of Human Rights in social settings. 3. The impact of the university on critical teaching in Human Rights. It is concluded that the university plays a relevant role in the defense, promotion and protection of Human Rights, which makes it clear that the university-Human Rights articulation is not a purely academic interest, but rather leads to interaction with politics. , the social, the economic and with the various actors who make life in university and social spaces.
