Latin American University, Globalization and Intercultural Challenges in the 21st Century.

Abstract

This paper aims the role of the Latin American university in the face of the advance of the phenomenon of Western globalization. To achieve this objective, the following aspects are considered: 1. The scope of globalization as a planetary phenomenon, which is integrated into historical events and events, in addition to being present in the implementation of anthropocentric ideologies, in the establishment of capitalism as a system hegemonic economy and Eurocentrism, as a determining condition for the conceptualization of center and periphery. 2. The role of the Latin American university as a reproducer of modern/Western rationality, subject to colonial guidelines, where the university has been in charge of perpetuating academic knowledge, the Western hegemonic order, not specifying a broad plan of social transformation. 3. The emergence of proposals for intercultural universities in the 21st century, which seek the constitution of a project of common interest, of encounter between beings, knowledge and knowledge, without losing sight of academic rigor and the construction of pathways for transformation Social. The method used is the hermeneutic-documentary review. It concludes in the urgency of the decolonization of the university and the integration of other knowledge within Latin American universities, as a horizon of action to strengthen interculturality and Latin American cultural heterogeneity.
